on Tuesday, 08 March 2016. Posted in CommWest Blog

This is an article that we came across that we as a phone company have to deal with quite a bit. Customers have a phone system that is working. It has been on their desks for years, nothing has changed so why would it break? Then when it does break it costs your company money due to not being able to answer your customers calls. When your first line of communications is your phone system dont you want to protect your investment and update it as often as possible so you dont have any down time? Read the article below and let us know if this has happened to you or is happening right now and then give us a call!!!

Using Communications to Communicate

on Tuesday, 30 September 2014. Posted in Communications, CommWest Blog

Communication (noun): The act or process of using words, sounds, signs or behaviors to express or exchange information or to express your ideas, thoughts, feelings, etc., to someone else

A message that is given to someone: a letter, telephone call, etc. (Merriam-Webster)

Communications: A system (as of telephones) for transmitting or exchanging information (Merriam-Webster)

We all communicate with one another in some fashion. It could be by letter, email, text message, sign language, Instant Message (IM), phone, through social media or face to face. We all don’t communicate well, though, despite the abundance of types of communications.

Moving? Dont forget about your Communications!!

on Monday, 09 March 2015. Posted in CommWest Blog

We have all had to move at one time or another, whether ourselves, a friend or relative. If you are helping it is not that bad, especially if they provide pizza and beer. And if you’re the guy that owns a truck you may get asked a lot! But if you are the one moving it can be a pretty stressful time. Now think about moving your business. Yeah, your desks, chairs, file cabinets and bookcases. And don’t forget you need to do a change of address and your subscriptions, etc…
But what about your business communications? The telephone that needs to ring to make you money and the computer that needs to connect to the internet so you can receive or place orders? Or the server and email that need to work so you can talk to the rest of the world? At your apartment if your cable does not show up for a few days you can get along without your TV, phone and internet, but how long can your office run without these services?
Moving your business needs to be well thought out and coordinated with the vendors that you depend upon for all your services. Without this, you will come to Move Day and find out your business is going to this new location, but you’re not going to be able to open the doors because your phone service or computer network did not make the move with you.

Backup your Data

on Tuesday, 31 March 2015. Posted in CommWest Blog

World Backup Day is March 31st! This doesn’t relate to backing up your vehicle, but backing up your data equipment. So the question is: Do you have a backup plan? If so, how long has it been since you have checked your data backup?  Data is something that is taken for granted up to the moment you don’t have it. Business is driven by computers and the data that they have, thus the importance of backing up that data. But keep in mind the needs of your business whether you do onsite, offsite or both.

What is a backup?

A backup is a copy of specific files such as documents, spreadsheets, emails and pictures. An entire hard drive can even be backed up.

Where can you backup to?

You can backup to either a second drive on your PC, an external drive or to a server. Depending on the data, you can even backup to the cloud. It is recommended that you save your backups to an offsite location. Some people put their backup drive in a safety deposit box at a bank or in a fireproof safe at their house.

How frequently should data be backed up?

Backups can be done daily, weekly, monthly and drives can be swapped every day, week or month depending on how critical the data is.
